Omega launches an impressive James Bond watch for its 60th anniversary

1962 was a special year for the film world as it marked the debut of the james link series, which has since released 25 films beginning with doctor not and the most recent being no time to die. Throughout 007’s storied history, the British secret agent has transcended from being a fictional character to a lifestyle in which even elements of the movies are as iconic as himself.

Of the numerous objects that have appeared in the movies, one would be remiss not to mention the Aston Martin DB5. The vehicle first appeared in Goldfinger and subsequently in seven more Bond films: thunder, golden eye, The tomorrow Never Die, Royal Casino, fallen from heaven, Spectrum Y no time to die. However, of the many movies, golden eye holds a special place for the Omega luxury watchmaker.

Since it became the archetypal Bond watch in 1995, the Omega Seamaster Diver Professional watch has appeared on the wrists of the James Bond character played by Pierce Brosnan and later by Daniel Craig, who has served as a brand ambassador throughout her time in the role of 007. In addition to the title character, Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris, has also joined the Omega family and is described as “offering both elegance and female empowerment on screen.”

The choice to go for the Omega the Bond watch came from Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming, who said: “I was convinced that Commander Bond, a navy man, a diver and an understated gentleman of the world, would wear this clock”. And the rest is history. More recently, the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, has been seen on several occasions wearing an Omega.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, a new Seamaster made its debut this week. Called the “Seamaster Diver 300m 60th Anniversary Edition,” the watch is a steel watch with no date display and comes on a mesh bracelet. What makes this watch so unique is its design style reminiscent of the first Seamaster to appear on golden eye. Combining the old with the stylistic codes of the 1990s, the new watch features a blue anodized aluminum bezel combined with a blue aluminum dial and the characteristic laser-engraved wave pattern. The reference to the 60th anniversary is evident in the bezel, as the traditional pipe or triangle on the bezel on the 12 o’clock display shows the number “60”.

It comes in two editions: Stainless Steel and Canopus Gold. The former is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8806, while the latter is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8807. Crafted from the manufacture’s 18K Canopus Gold, the gold version’s dial is encrusted with crystals that they pay homage to the Flag of Jamaica: owned by Ian Fleming in the country.

Finally, at the bottom of the box, the last tribute to the James Bond series is made. The film’s iconic opening sequence featuring Bond’s silhouette and revolving gun barrel design takes center stage, achieved by laser engraving from a single disc.

Speaking further about this special edition, Raynald Aeschlimann, Omega’s Chairman and CEO, said: “Our partnership with EON Productions and James Bond is something totally unique within watchmaking. It’s an opportunity to be creative and have fun, while emphasizing our qualities of style and reliability. We love bringing that partnership to life on nights like this.

Daniel Craigwho played the role of James Bond in five films, said: “It has been a pleasure for me to work with Omega on all the films since Royal Casino. James Bond is a character who likes the best of everything, so it always made sense for him to wear something as beautiful and reliable as an Omega.”
