Chanel’s fashion director, Virginie Viard, unveiled a 2022-2023 haute-couture collection on Tuesday that combines comfort, refinement and an ode to heritage.

It is rare for Chanel to refuse a parade theme from season to season. But we have to believe that director of photography Virginie Viard loved the equestrian show. “I am part of the continuity, he shows his message of the idea, while leaving a room for the experiment”. For this, his group of muse artists will take over. Starting with Xavier Veilhan, who provided the scenography of the house, located in Étrier de Paris, the equestrian center in the Bois de Boulogne. The contemporary artist, who collaborated with Chanel in his last haute couture show, combined his popular references of the 1920s and 1930s, as well as a nod to geometric aesthetics. . He thought of a way to get into the fun, with some wooden items from the previous parade. A set in between we can see Keira Knightley, Sigourney Weaver, Marion Cotillard or Caroline de Maigret.

Beautiful cowgirls

On the catwalk, the idea is clear: the homely tweed invites itself to a cowgirl look. Virginie Viard describes this collection, “we see dresses, long dresses like Mademoiselle Chanel designed them in the 1930s, close to the body, even if they have big shoulders here, and pleated fabric, i.e. wedding dress. Also lace, embroidered, recycled, not embroidered but repainted. The palette is green, khaki, beige, red, many blacks and money”. Everything is worn with boots, cowboy style, sometimes with a cowboy hat, itself in tweed. We love the stunning work of tailoring, with metallic floral prints, intricate pearls and crystal embellishments that enhance evening gowns and oversized blouses.

bohemian bride

Finally, to close this haute couture show, is the bride. This is introduced by Jill Kortleve, the Dutch model whose rise is unstoppable, now present in all Chanel shows. Here, she’s wearing a strapless white dress with a tulle petticoat, topped off with a matching white shawl embroidered with camellias, Chanel’s signature flower. A silhouette that invites you to say yes, of course. In complete relaxation.
